Laser hair removal is one of the most common treatments requested by our Indian clients at MIYA Aesthetics & Wellness. In fact, about half of our laser hair removal clients are East Indian, so this is a skin type and hair pattern we work with every week.
Many clients come in after years of shaving, waxing, threading, or dealing with ingrown hairs. For some, the concern is facial hair on the upper lip, chin, sideburns, or jawline. For others, it may be underarms, legs, arms, bikini area, or back. The goal is usually the same: less hair growth, fewer ingrowns, smoother skin, and less daily maintenance.
Indian skin often falls within Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV and V. The Fitzpatrick scale is a classification system that describes how skin responds to sun exposure. Type V is commonly described as skin that rarely burns and tans easily, according to a Fitzpatrick Skin-Type Chart published by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.
This matters because Indian skin usually contains more melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its color, but it can also make the skin more reactive if the wrong laser setting is used. When a treatment is too aggressive, there is a higher chance of irritation, burns, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
That does not mean laser hair removal is unsafe for Indian skin. It means the treatment needs to be planned correctly. The provider should understand darker skin tones, coarse hair patterns, and how to adjust the treatment based on the area being treated.
MIYA Aesthetics & Wellness uses the Soprano ICE Platinum laser for laser hair removal. This device uses gradual heating and built-in cooling, which helps make the treatment more comfortable while reducing the risk of overheating the skin.
Many clients describe the treatment as warm rather than painful. It is usually much easier to tolerate than waxing, especially in sensitive areas such as the upper lip, bikini line, or underarms.
A lot of Indian clients ask whether laser hair removal will make pigmentation worse. This is a very reasonable concern, especially for anyone who has experienced dark marks after acne, waxing, threading, or ingrown hairs.
With the right settings and technique, laser hair removal can actually help the skin look calmer over time because there is less shaving irritation, fewer ingrown hairs, and less inflammation. The goal is not only hair reduction. For many clients, the bigger benefit is that the skin looks less irritated and feels smoother.
Another common concern is whether laser hair removal helps with hormonal facial hair. It can help reduce the thickness and speed of growth, but it does not cure the underlying hormonal cause. Clients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or other hormonal concerns may still need occasional maintenance treatments.
One client in her early thirties came to MIYA because she was shaving her chin and jawline every day. She had thick, dark hair and Fitzpatrick Type V skin. Her biggest concern was not just the hair itself, but the irritation and dark marks that came from constant shaving and ingrown hairs.
We treated the chin, jawline, and upper lip using Soprano ICE Platinum. After three sessions, she noticed that the hair was growing back more slowly and felt less coarse. The ingrown hairs had also decreased.
After six sessions, she had about 80 to 90 percent hair reduction. The remaining hair was much finer and easier to manage. Because she was no longer shaving every day, the skin also looked calmer and more even.
This is a common pattern we see with Indian facial hair removal. The improvement is not always just about less hair. It is also about less irritation, less inflammation, and more confidence in the skin.
Most clients need six to eight sessions for best results. Hair grows in cycles, so one session cannot treat every follicle at the same stage. Sessions are usually spaced several weeks apart depending on the area.
Facial hair, especially when influenced by hormones, may need more consistency and occasional maintenance. Body areas such as underarms, legs, arms, and bikini often respond very well when clients stay on schedule.
Laser hair removal works best when the hair is dark enough for the laser to target. It is especially helpful for clients who have coarse hair, frequent ingrown hairs, razor bumps, or irritation from waxing and threading.
It is not ideal for white, gray, very light blonde, or very fine peach-fuzz hair because those hairs do not contain enough pigment for the laser to target effectively.
Many Indian clients choose MIYA because they want a clinic that understands darker skin tones and does not use the same setting on every client. We look at the treatment area, skin tone, hair thickness, history of pigmentation, and how the skin responds after each session.
That extra attention matters. Laser hair removal should never feel like a rushed, one-size-fits-all treatment, especially for clients who are more prone to hyperpigmentation.
